If you ask me on any given day to list my favorite things – family, paddle boarding, and yoga will always top my list. As summer approaches, the call of the water grows stronger. Instead of sitting inside with your little ones, take them out on your board for a little yoga and adventure. I know that I consider myself one lucky mama when I get the opportunity to combine my loves, and spend some quality time with my little man on our Glide Lotus. Below you’ll find a short SUP Yoga sequence that’s fun for you and a little one!
Begin with a few calming breaths. This can be done with your child facing you, back-to-back, or with him/her directly in front, as shown. Inhale, lift the arms up to trace the sun and bring your hands to prayer. Exhale, bring your prayer to your heart. Reverse. Inhale, lift your hands to the clouds. Exhale, bring hands to the board.
Seated Side Stretches
Seated side stretches are favorite. Try going to opposite sides to keep the board steady, …and for the additional smiles.
Seated Forward Fold
I love reaching for little hands in seated forward fold. You can do this pose at the same time, or alternate..so many options!
This is the best cat/cow you’ll ever experience. You get an amazing stretch, plus bonus kisses! Tell me that doesn’t make you want to grab your board!!!
We like to have fun with standing poses. Holding hands during Warrior makes kids feel more stable and is way more fun, as you can see. Other times, I sit and spot.
Don’t forget your core workout. Partner Modified Navasana or Boat Pose is where it’s at. I guarantee you’ll feel those abs while you enjoy some bonding time reaching for those little hands.
Expression Session – Playtime
If you’re up for it, a little acro yoga on the board with your kiddo is a blast!
After that great yoga session, you never know what animals might want to come visit!
I love to finish with a pirate and mermaid nature hunt on the paddle back. And don’t forget, little ones need life vests! Safety first. Have fun and enjoy the Smiles!
